Exhibit Care Coordinator

POSITION: Part Time (average 20 - 25 hours per week).

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager and the Museum Director, the Exhibit Care Coordinator is responsible for a number of specific tasks as outlined below under responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma (required); additional college course work and/or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • Experience or course work in exhibit or architectural design, carpentry, engineering, or related field is preferred. Basic knowledge of office procedures and ability to operate general office equipment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of and interest in the experiences and learning processes of children and families.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    Must possess excellent customer service, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to think mechanically, creatively and possess strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to use different tools, ranging from sewing to carpentry to water testing.
  • Interest in and ability to perform hands-on work.
  • Must be open-minded with an interest in learning new things.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform daily walkthroughs of PlayHouse to check exhibits and props, and identify any issues.
  • All aspects of prop maintenance and management, to include inventory, repair, research, purchasing, staff training, evaluation, replacement, budget, storage, source identification and proposals for change and improvement.
  • Coordination of exhibit repair to include identification of repairs and improvements, performing of repairs when possible or scheduling repairs when additional support is required.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of exhibits to ensure proper functionality. Maintain exhibit logs and manuals to track exhibit care.
  • Coordinate all aspects of annual maintenance closure.
    Training and communication with staff on exhibit care, cleaning routines and troubleshooting. Create, manage and review cleaning log.
  • Maintain and organize exhibit cleaning supplies, including those for water table exhibit for regular testing.
    Communicate any exhibit-related issues to appropriate PlayHouse and Park District staff.
  • Work with PlayHouse and Park District staff to support new exhibit development. Advocate for safety, accessibility and feasibility of exhibit care.
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Demonstrate commitment to museum values and goals of excellence in learning, equality, collaboration and customer service.
  • Attend weekly meetings with Director and Operations Manager and all other staff meetings as required.
    Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:

  • Pay rate: $11.00 per hour.
  • Average of 10 - 29 hours per week. Must be available to work evening and weekend event shifts, as assigned.

Music instructor for tot time program

POSITION: Part Time

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Musical ability, including the ability to play an instrument, ideally guitar or other stringed instrument such as ukulele or mandolin.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred. Degree in Education, Art or Early Childhood Development a plus.  Extensive experience in a similar role may be substituted for all of part of the educational requirements.
  • Some experience working with young children, and interest in working with children and families in an informal educational setting.
  • Ability to interact positively with visitors.
  • Ability to plan and work with colleagues.

DUTIES:

  • Assist in leading a 20-minute weekly music class for 1-3 year olds and their parents as part of the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum Tot Time Program. This includes:
    • Teaching and leading 2-3 new songs each week
    • Distributing small instruments (shakers, bells, etc) to children so they can play along
    • Engaging parents as well as children
  • Work with PlayHouse Instructor to plan a 20-minute experience, and select songs specific to a theme that changes each week

OTHER:

  • Pay rate is $12.00 per hour. We anticipate one planning hour every week, and two hours of teaching per week.
  • Tot Time is Wednesdays and Saturdays. Must be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:45am – 11:15am.

Maker Playologist - Experience Facilitator

POSITION: Part Time (average 20 - 25 hours per week).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful candidates must have experience and comfort with basic carpentry tools. Must have demonstrated experience building or constructing things from a variety of materials, such as wood, metal, plastic, reclaimed/recycled materials.
  • Experience or interest in interacting with and leading children 0-8 years of age in open-ended art or building related projects.
  • Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in an informal educational setting.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred. Experience in a similar role may be substituted for all of part of the educational requirements.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience or desire to work with a highly diverse audience in a busy atmosphere.
  • Ability to interact positively and spontaneously with visitors.
  • Ability to contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervision.

DUTIES:

  • Work in the Real-Tools exhibit, interacting with visitors as they learn how to use hand carpentry tools and complete carpentry projects.
  • Facilitate visitors’ play experiences in a welcoming, enthusiastic, and open-ended manner.
  • Deliver high quality customer service by answering questions and assisting visitors.
  • Monitor the orderly operation of the museum including communicating rules to visitors/field trips and following safety standards and sanitation requirements. Routinely walk through galleries and straighten as needed.
  • Continually organize exhibition spaces throughout the day. Perform cleaning and resetting of exhibitions for opening and closing procedures daily. Spot clean as needed.
  • Assist in setup, delivery and visitation.
  • Report supply needs and exhibition repairs or maintenance to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Lead planned and impromptu activities as necessary.
  • Report all visitor comments, complaints and trends to Operations Manager in a timely manner.
  • Follow and support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:

  • Starting pay rate is $10.00 per hour.
  • Typical work hours are assigned and performed during the 8am – 5pm time period while the facility is open, seven days per week. Some hours will be assigned outside after 5pm for events and programs, as necessary.
  • Includes weekdays, weekends and some evenings and holidays.

Admissions and Retail Attendant

POSITION: Part Time (Average 24 - 29 hours per week)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred. Extensive experience in a similar role may be substituted for all of part of the educational requirements.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a customer service role, ideally a museum or other visitor attraction setting.
  • Must have excellent customer service, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in a highly diverse informal educational setting.
  • Practical understanding of ages and stages of child development.
  • Knowledge of basic telephone and PC functions including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain focus and professional demeanor in a highly demanding atmosphere.
  • Ability to create an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers. Experience working as or with volunteers preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and respectfully with adults as well as children of all ages.
  • Must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to learning and innovation.

DUTIES:

  • Open and close Welcome Desk computer systems according to defined procedures.
  • Perform cashier duties including handling cash, check and charge transactions.
  • Promote and sell PlayHouse Children’s Museum admissions, memberships and programs.
  • Clean and maintain an organized and well-stocked front desk area and assist in exhibition cleaning and organizing on a daily basis. Perform spot cleaning in other areas as needed.
  • Interact with museum visitors by answering questions about the Peoria PlayHouse Museum, Peoria Zoo and Luthy Botanical Gardens programs and ticket options.
  • Interact with the general public and privately booked groups, school groups, and birthday parties and ensure an excellent experience for all visitors.
  • Light clerical work: answering and directing phone calls, data entry and other duties as assigned.
  • Check in and direct guests for museum workshops and programs.
  • Manage lost and found area.
  • Attend all staff meeting s and trainings as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:

  • Pay rate is $10.00 per hour.

manager on duty

POSITION: Part Time (Average 12 - 20 hours per week)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED required. College degree preferred.  Will accept a combination of education and experience if it is closely related to the job skills needed for the position.
  • One year of experience in an office setting required, preferably in a museum or non-profit institution.
  • Must have excellent customer service, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in a highly diverse informal educational setting.
  • Knowledge of computers and phones as needed for office work, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with others in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervisory oversight.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
  • Ability to interact effectively and respectfully with adults as well as children of all ages.

DUTIES:

  • Making customer service decisions as needed while maintaining outstanding customer service practices and standards.
  • Overseeing daily operations by completing interior and exterior walk-throughs during the day, ensuring a safe and clean museum environment, troubleshooting of exhibit problems, and record exhibition problems using Exhibit Maintenance Request forms as needed.
  • Ensuring a smooth and organized delivery of all museum offerings and communicating daily agenda to staff through daily agenda logs and whiteboard. Distributing mail, answering phones, etc.
  • Opening and closing procedures for museum - operating alarm system, preparing safe, cash drawers and registers for the business day.
  • Supervising floor staff – Playologists, admissions desk staff, volunteers and interns, in the following areas:
    • Assisting in training of new staff.
    • Supervising office procedures (POS equipment, cash drawers, etc).
    • Communicating about employee performance with Full Time staff.
    • Assisting with greeting of groups, payment processing, membership processing, etc.
    • Maintaining membership records.
  • Representing and promoting the PlayHouse at local events.
  • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and supporting all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Demonstrating commitment to museum values and goals of excellence in learning, equality, collaboration and customer service.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:

  • Pay rate is $11.00 per hour.
  • Under the supervision of the Peoria PlayHouse Operations Manager.

Must be able to work weekdays, weekends and some evenings and holidays.
